Job Summary:

The Hydrovac Truck Operator is responsible for driving/operating vacuum trucks, running water pumps, and routine maintenance of all vacuum system components and water pumps. The Hydrovac Truck Operator will use vacuum operations to expose live utilities.

Required Education / Experience & Qualifications:

  • Valid Class A License with Tanker Endorsement
  • Extensive knowledge of machinery operation and capabilities
  • Ability to read site plans related to structural concrete and land grades
  • Ability to complete safety awareness training
  • Excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Flexibility to operate multiple types of equipment
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team

Preferred Education / Experience & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Operate hydro excavation trucks using high pressure water and vacuum systems for excavations and exposing utilities
  • Work includes hydro excavating to pothole, trench and locate utilities
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and keeping it clean inside and out
  • Responsible for following company policies
  • Effective timekeeping, time management, and documentation of services performed on the job
  • Understand and know DOT rules and regulations
  • Possess working knowledge of road safety regulations and construction site safety
  • Prepare construction sites for excavation
  • Transport tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites
  • Inspect, fuel and perform routine vehicle maintenance prior to beginning shift
  • Consult digging plans, machine specifications, and safety procedures for specific tasks
  • Ensure work is completed to specification by observing grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other markers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of operating machinery
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds
  • Must be able to drive or ride in a vehicle for up to four hours to travel to and from job sites
  • Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
  • Must have flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the business
